Safe Word: Democracy
A cybernetic, behavioural inquiry into the nature of power: the audience exercises control over the performer, only to discover it is degrading the very ecosystem it inhabits.
Safe Word: Democracy is a performance-installation conceived as a stark device for raising awareness of systemic responsibility and environmental collapse. It is a cybernetic, behavioural inquiry into the nature of power, structured to invert the premise of Rhythm 0: it sets the contractual, consent-based structure of BDSM against the blank delegation of representative democracy, exposing the performer to a radical vulnerability. Its aim is to confront the spectator with the consequences of their own actions: every act of abuse against the performer does not stay isolated, but incrementally degrades the very ecosystem the audience itself lives and breathes in.
The environment begins as a technocratic utopia inviting interaction, run in real time through TouchDesigner via the performer's biometric data. Yet the space is a sensory extension of the exposed body, where every action carries its own consequence. The true climax is not the performer's collapse but the exhaustion of the audience's endurance and the surfacing of its own shadow: once it ends, the spectator carries away a trace — open questions, without accusation or absolution, about the weight of their own intervention.
